The Business End of the Leash Podcast
If you’re like most dog trainers you got into the industry fueled by a desire to help dogs, and help people. Probably because you had an experience with a dog in your life that showed you how impactful and important training is.
And then found yourself faced with the day to day running of a business. Which includes a lot of shit you just don’t enjoy, or your brain melts when faced with having to do. And you’re frustrated, having to spend hours and hours making content, or updating your website, or figuring out a marketing strategy that actually works without you having to spend thousands of dollars on it, when you really want to be eyebrows deep in working with the dogs and their people.
Running a small business requires so many different skills. Marketing, sales, admin, social media, bookkeeping, conflict management, keeping an eye on the industry and economy, knowing when to pivot and how vs when to hang on and push through. And if you’re anything like me and my clients, that shit makes you wanna throw up in your mouth a little (or a lot).
The traditional business model set up of 121s, group classes and done for you training (board & train, walk & train, daytraining etc) leads to working way too much, for way too little, with the wrong kinds of clients and wondering why you are so tired and stressed and have no fucking time for your own dogs, family, life and mental (and physical) health.
So many dog trainers are also ND (neurodivergent if you’re new to that terminology) and trying to run a business in the way that works for neurotypical people is the fastest route to burn out and resentment.
It doesn't have to be that hard.
You can learn how to build, run and scale a dog training business that works better for your brain, your life, your dogs, your clients, your bank account and your peace of mind. Because burnout is not the price you have to pay for doing the job you love so much.
This podcast is for dog trainers tired of running their business like every other trainer and ready to learn how to run your business working 30 hour work weeks, no evenings and weekends (if you don’t want to), solidified and stable income every month, with clients who are engaged, curious, accountable and learning in the best way for them which means teaching their dogs in the best way possible.
